FRANCE TRIP

Moselle River Valley

October 2012

CRUISING THE MOSELLE RIVER; STRASBOURG and RIQUEWIHR

This European River Cruise included visits to the Rhine & Mosel Rivers. Along these river routes, we stopped at cities, ports and picturesque, quaint villages. These neat little villages are located at the base of striking valley moutainsides covered with vineyards. We covered 6 countries in 3 wks: Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Switzerland. We began this journey with 4 extra days in Bruge, Belgium and ended it with 4 extra Days in Lucerne, Switzerland.

STRASBOURG: Here the culture is a blend of French/ German influences. This is the seat of the council of Europe and the capital of Alsace Region of France. In the area of Strasbourg’s Petit France, the river splits into a number of canals. While we are there, a boat strike is on, so we cannot take a boat ride to tour the canals. This city is just lovely….a walker’s paradise w/attractive cobblestone streets and fine shops and restaurants.

RIQUEWIHR: Attractive and quaint Alsatian village with cobbled streets, medieval timber-framed houses, galleries, shops, courtyards, ramparts and a watchtower… with vineyards on the terraces.

STORK PARK: The white bird is being re-populated in this area. We visited the nesting grounds.
