Luxembourg Trip
October 2012
Luxembourg
This River Cruise included visits to
the Rhine & Mosel Rivers. Along these river routes, we stopped
at cities, ports and picturesque, quaint villages. These neat
little villages are located at the base of striking valley
moutainsides covered with vineyards. We covered 6 countries
in 3 wks: Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, France,
Luxembourg and Switzerland. We began this journey with
4 extra days in Brugge, Belgium and ended it with 4 extra
Days in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Tiny nation with less than 1000 square miles.
The Grand Duchy is a constitutional monarchy
located between Belgium, France, and Germany.
Luxembourg is one of the world's most developed
countries, with an advanced economy and the
world's second highest GDP. Its historic and
strategic importance dates back to its founding as
a Roman fortress and Frankish count’s castle in
Middle Ages.
Luxembourg City is also the site of an American Military Cemetery and the site of General George Patton's grave. Patton's grave is marked by a simple white cross exactly like those marking the graves of the American soldiers buried there. It was Patton's wish to be buried with his men.
